Evergreen Trees
Pollarding
Pollarding is a pruning technique we use to maintain young trees and shrubs at a specific height. It’s especially useful for preventing vigorous trees from outgrowing their allotted space. Pollarding should be performed every two to four years. The process involves selecting a framework around which we cut the branches to a certain length, removing thinner branches that grow from the tree’s or shrub’s main stem. Since pollarding prevents branches from growing too large or unstable, it’s an effective and safe method for managing trees in urban areas.
Our arborists can advise you on which trees are suitable for pollarding (as not all are) and recommend the best management approach for your tree.

Benefits of Tree Pollarding
- Revitalise particular trees and shrubs
- Promote healthy plant growth beneath the tree
- Increase foliage coverage at lower levels
